Sport, outdoor activities, and well-being are at the heart of the company's DNA.
The two founders, André Claude and Ginette Leduc, turned their love for sports into technical and comfortable outdoor clothing. These two former physical education teachers at Cégep André Laurendeau decided to venture into clothing design to address the lack of technical clothing for sports at a reasonable price for their students.
With a real need, the demand exploded, and the company had to move to a larger environment. That's when they decided to relocate the business to the old school in the village of St-Clet dating back to the 1900s.
Each product line was designed from size 6 to 16, but their distributor did not see the importance of catering to plus-size customers. Yet the demand was there. Curvy women were tired of seeing lifeless, shapeless models and having to visit multiple stores to find some semblance of choice. So the obvious solution was... Sportive Plus was born.
At 22, André was in the top 20 javelin throwers in the world and was named Athlete of the Year in Quebec. Athlete of the Year in Quebec in 1972, he participated in the Munich Olympics.
On the other hand, Ginette undertook the trek on the Everest path leading to Gokyo (4750m) twice.
The company has been passed on to the next generation since 2019. Catherine Claude engages in various sports such as triathlon, Ironman, XTERRA, Adventure Raid, Canoeing, Climbing, and more!
Catherine, with the help of the managers of the different stores, focuses on finding the best in the sports clothing industry for her customers. No one can speak more about the subject than Catherine, who has even helped several manufacturers develop plus-size collections.
It was really necessary to help this industry to obtain sports clothing in plus sizes that are truly adapted and look good!!
Sportive Plus is now celebrating its 25th anniversary and has become a reference in the 14+ sports clothing industry for active women.
